West Sound Utility District is a special purpose district which provides water and sanitary sewer service to residential and commercial properties south and east of the City of Port Orchard, WA.
A cross-connection is any temporary or permanent connection between a public water system or the consumer’s water system (i.e., drinking) and any source or system containing non-potable water, liquid, solid or gas that could contaminate the potable water supply by backflow.
Backflow is the undesirable reversal of the flow of water from its intended direction in any pipeline or plumbing system. Backflow is dangerous because it can allow drinking water in plumbing systems to become contaminated and unusable.
Common examples of cross connection hazards (source of contamination) that need to be protected with a backflow preventer include:
There are numerous documented cases where drinking water has been contaminated via unprotected cross connections. These cases have caused illness, injury, and in some cases, death, to consumers served by the system.
West Sound Resolution # 135-09
The customer needs to eliminate as many potential cross connection issues as possible, but when you have an existing well or sprinkler system, an approved, properly installed and tested backflow prevention device must be used.
West Sound Utility District will accept only our test reports. The tester will fill out the form completely and e-mail or fax the completed form to WSUD. Incomplete forms will not be accepted.
WSUD Backflow Assembly Test Report - REPORT FORM
West Sound Utility District MUST inspect all new devices when installed. You can use any tester on our list, but if you use one not on our list, they must have a Washington State Department of Health Certification as a Backflow Assembly Tester (BAT) and the tester must provide us with copies of their current state certification and test equipment calibrations certificates.
Disclaimer: West Sound Utility District provides this list as a service to our customers. This is not a complete list of state certified testers, but rather a list of testers who have provided documentation that shows that all of their applicable certifications are current. The District does not warranty any work performed by anyone on this list.
